Rock City Barn Sign, Woodbury Tennessee
This is one of a few surviving barn signs created as an advertising campaign started in 1935 by Rock City founder Garnet Carter, using barn roof paintings to attract travelers to his Lookout Mountain attraction in Chattanooga. A young sign painter named Clark Byers traveled the highways in 19 states offering to paint farmers' barns for free in exchange for putting the ads on the roofs. By 1969 he had painted around 900 barns and it is estimated that only about 60 remain. I don't know when this one was painted but it is still in pretty good shape. You can still read "See 7 States Rock City World's 8th Wonder". You can see this legendary piece of history from State Route 70S south of Woodbury, TN
