In 1848, this place was originally built as the Mountain View Inn, which became a stop for the Butterfield Overland Stagecoach. The original Inn weathered fires, floods, and feuds, but in 1920, citrus rancher John Klusman rebuilt it into the chalet-like beauty we see today. By 1939, Danish immigrant Irl Hinrichsen took the reins, ditched the hotel vibe, and renamed it the Sycamore Inn, turning it into a Route 66 legend. During the Mother Road’s golden years, it hosted everyone from Marilyn Monroe (who dined incognito, hiding from the paparazzi, in 1959) to Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, who reportedly visited weeks before her 1947 murder. If you're looking for a spot that has been serving up history since 1848, where stagecoaches gave way to Studebakers and famous folk have dined, stop by on Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga, CA
