Ozark Halfwit, Lake Ozark Missouri
This giant was originally located at the former Dogpatch Miniature Golf course where he was known as Mortimer and was holding a giant golf club. The Dogpatch gas station and tourist stop began in 1947 with a theme inspired by the Li'l Abner comic strip and the traditional Ozarks hillbilly culture. The mini golf course and Mortimer were added around 1963. The golf course and other vintage features evolved over the years and now the original Dogpatch Store is all that remains as a long standing fixture on the Bagnell Dam Strip. Mortimer was often referred to as the Ozark Halfwit which is the name that stuck with him into his restored retirement location across the street from his old friend Chief Bagnell. You'll find them in their permanent arm raised greeting to each other on Bagnell Dam Boulevard in Lake Ozark, MO
